Project Description

The Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP) at the University of Tübingen was inaugurated in May 1999 – It represents a new research institute building for the Center of Molecular Plant Biology

The project is being executed based on a design by Vermögen und Bau Baden-Württemberg / Amt Tübingen, with architects RDS Partner collaborating with Wenzel + Wenzel to implement the 5,400 sqm Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP) from the planning phase (LPH 5). This facility, situated on the campus site, dedicates 90% of its space to research activities.

The internal layout of the CMPB features 16 independent research groups organized within open, spacious structures that can be flexibly partitioned into laboratory areas ranging from 30 to 700 sq. m. All institutes have access to central facilities, including workshops, an isotope laboratory, and a pool of teaching rooms. The overall aesthetic of the institutional building is characterized by slanted bars, horizontal bands of exposed concrete, and a glass facade in the background.
