Project Description

Intercom Facades is proud to contribute to Columbia University’s Vagelos Innovation Laboratories (CUIMC Berrie Expansion) in New York — the city’s first all-electric academic research laboratory. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) in collaboration with Atelier Ten, the project is a cornerstone of Columbia’s ambitious Plan 2030 to decarbonize its campus.

This high-performance façade was carefully designed, engineered, manufactured to meet strict energy-saving, ventilation, and sustainability requirements. With a window-to-wall ratio under 50%, combined with exterior shading and integrated louvers, the building effectively reduces solar heat gain and glare. Thanks to these strategies, it is expected to operate 30% more efficiently than the ASHRAE 90.1 2010 baseline standard.

The project showcases Intercom Facades’s proprietary systems:
– Standard and curved unitized curtail wall facades
– Punch windows
– Storefront

Our technically advanced façades contribute to the creation of attractive, state-of-the-art research facilities that support the next generation of scientific innovation at Columbia University.

Another milestone that reflects Intercom Facades’ global commitment to delivering high-end, sustainable windows and curtainwall façade systems.
